Leeds United's long-running interest in Igor Paixao has flared up again after the Brazilian's wife posted a cryptic message on Instagram. The Whites, who narrowly avoided relegation last season, are still monitoring the Feyenoord winger despite Marseille's £40m valuation.
Igor Paixao's wife posted a photo of Marseille's Velodrome Stadium with the caption, 'It will remain forever in my heart.' This came days after reports that Leeds were still in the race to sign Paixao, though not as their top priority. French newspaper La Provence reported that an exit isn't imminent, but Leeds' interest remains strong.
While Paixao would improve Leeds' squad, he isn't a pressing need. The club has already spent around £50m this summer, including signings like Harry Wilson and Tarik Muharemovic. With Noah Okafor returning to training this week after a standout first season, another winger may not be urgent. Leeds finished 14th in the Premier League last season with 47 points (11W-14D-13L), scoring 49 goals and conceding 56.
Marseille wants over £40m for Paixao, which may deter Leeds from making him a priority. The club is focusing on signing a striker and defensive cover first. If Okafor and Wilson perform well, Leeds may drop their pursuit of Paixao altogether.
