Leeds United have loaned young defender Luke Matykiewicz to non-league Ilkeston Town. The 19-year-old Northern Irish centre-back will spend 28 days with the Northern Premier League side on a short-term youth loan.
The move was confirmed by the club in a statement. "Leeds United can confirm Academy defender Luke Matykiewicz has joined Ilkeston Town on a short-term youth loan," the statement said. Ilkeston, nicknamed the Robins, also announced the deal, expressing their delight at the signing.
Matykiewicz signed his first professional contract with Leeds in the summer, a two-year deal. He has had limited minutes for the under-21s this season, featuring in the EFL Trophy and National League Cup. This loan is designed to provide him with valuable senior match experience.
The move comes as the first team sits fifth in the Premier League with nine points from five games. Their next challenge is a trip to face second-placed Arsenal on 10 October.
Matykiewicz's loan at Ilkeston Town begins immediately.
