Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has made it clear that Manchester City's 114 financial charges are not his concern as his team prepares for a key Premier League fixture. Speaking ahead of Saturday's lunchtime trip to Arsenal, Farke said his focus is entirely on football and his own squad.
Farke was asked about the Premier League's case against City, which relates to failing to report accurate financial information across nine seasons from 2009. "It's not my topic, my topic is football and there are more qualified people to speak about this, so it is not my topic," the head coach stated. He emphasised that his job is to manage Leeds United, who currently sit fifth in the table with nine points from five games.
The German manager has a personal connection to the situation, having faced City twice while in charge of Norwich City, winning his one home game against them. He is also a friend of former City boss Pep Guardiola. Yet Farke insisted he was detached from the title races during the years in question. "I don't know. It is not up to me and I was not involved in the title race in these years," he said. "I had different topics to deal with during this time when Manchester City won many titles."
His comments come as Leeds return to action following a three-week international break. Their last outing was a 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace on September 20, part of a recent run of one win, three draws and one loss. The team's next challenge is a significant one, facing an Arsenal side that is second in the standings.
Leeds are six points behind leaders Manchester City in the early title picture. Top scorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin, with three goals this season, will be key at the Emirates. Farke's refusal to be drawn into external debates shows a disciplined approach as his team aims to improve on a solid start. The match at Arsenal kicks off on Saturday, October 10.
