Leeds United have loftier ambitions than relegation this season. The Whites finished in 14th place in their first season back in the Premier League. They have since signed Harry Wilson, James Trafford, and Tarik Muharemovic to try and establish their position in the top-flight. Those signings are expected to take them to another level, and they are not done there, with more expected in the coming weeks. They could still be dragged into the relegation battle, though, if things do not go their way. Now, a supercomputer has predicted their chances of going down to the Championship in the 2026-27 campaign.
The Opta Analyst supercomputer believes that Daniel Farke's side have a 22.5 per cent chance of dropping to the second tier. That is a lower chance than Fulham and Sunderland, who are given a 23.4 per cent and 25.9 per cent likelihood. Newly-promoted sides are the favourites to go straight back down, with Coventry rated at 27.9 per cent, Ipswich at 31.2 per cent, and Hull at 38.7 per cent.
Why Leeds can't be too complacent for the new season
The LS11 side will take encouragement from last season, but they will know not to become overconfident. That can lead to the worst outcome, as composure and performances can drop as a result of complacency. The LS11 side are doing all they can in the transfer window to head up the table, rather than in the wrong direction. Whether that works, is not yet clear, but they are in a pretty good position to cement their status.
The fact that they are still considered to be potential candidates for relegation suggests that their work is not done yet. However, the fact that the chances of not very high, means that what they have done so far in the market is rated by the data organisation. The ceiling of the Yorkshire team is not clear at the minute, but apparently their floor is.
