Leeds United are facing a transfer crisis as striker Joel Piroe's future hangs in the balance. The 27-year-old wants to leave the club before the transfer window closes, but his representatives feel the club are pricing him out of a move.
Leeds United set an asking price of £16million plus bonuses for Piroe at the start of the transfer window. However, no club has met that price, and Piroe's agent, Theo Roebbers, has expressed concerns over the valuation.
Why it matters for Leeds United
Piroe's departure would be a significant blow to Leeds United, who are already struggling in the Premier League. The club are 38 points behind leaders Arsenal and have scored just 49 goals this season.
A meeting between Piroe's representative and the club was held this week, which opened the door to the possibility of a lower fee. However, a permanent sale remains Leeds United's preference, although a loan with an obligation to make it permanent could be considered.
Leeds United's promotion from the Championship was secured 15 months ago, and since then, Piroe has fallen down the pecking order. Last season, he played just 258 minutes in the Premier League and was left on the bench in recent friendlies with RB Leipzig and Manchester United.
Piroe joined Leeds from Swansea City in the summer of 2023 and has made 118 appearances for the club, providing 34 goals and 10 assists. His contract ends in June 2027, although Leeds have the option to extend it by an extra 12 months.
The League standing (final 2025 table -- new season not yet under way) is 14th in Premier League, 47 pts, 11W-14D-13L from 38 games, recent form LWDWD. Goals this season: 49 scored, 56 conceded (-7 goal difference).
