The summer transfer window continues to unfold at Elland Road, as Leeds United handle a complex situation regarding the future of goalkeeper Lucas Perri. The shot-stopper is currently linked with a move to Serie A side Torino, with the Italian club remaining engaged in active negotiations to secure his services. Despite some concerns that the deal has stalled, the move remains a distinct possibility for both parties involved.
The Italian outfit has not given up on the Yorkshireman. Giacomo Morandin noted: "Torino are still negotiating with Leeds over Perri, with a move for the goalkeeper still possible." This comes after a period where Torino appeared very close to finalizing an agreement during the closing stages of last month, though several factors have complicated the progression.
One primary reason for the recent delay is an injury suffered by Perri during the pre-season campaign. This fitness concern has caused doubts within the Torino camp, who are wary of signing a player who might not be immediately available. Additionally, Marseille also entered the picture with their own interest in the Brazilian goalkeeper during the window, adding further competition to the race.
The current proposed structure for the transfer involves an initial €1m loan fee, followed by an option to buy the player for €14m next summer. For Perri, the move represents a significant opportunity for a fresh start after losing his status as Leeds United' first-choice goalkeeper. The shift in hierarchy occurred after manager Daniel Farke decided to make James Trafford his new man between the posts.
Trafford already made his mark, keeping a clean sheet on his Premier League debut for Leeds against Nottingham Forest. His arrival meant that Leeds were previously expected to sign Michael Zetterer from Eintracht Frankfurt to provide experienced goalkeeper cover, but that specific move is now also in doubt as the Perri situation evolves.
Leeds United are currently looking to stabilize their squad following a challenging period. Looking at the final 2025 table with the new season not yet under way, the club finished 14th in Premier League, 47 pts, 11W-14D-13L from 38 games. Their recent form was inconsistent, as they lost the last two matches, including a 3-0 defeat to West Ham on 2026-05-24. The squad also faces depth issues with Gabriel Gudmundsson, Mateo Joseph, and Wilfried Gnonto currently sidelined.
