Newcastle United will be without at least five players for Monday's Premier League visit to Leeds United, with new signing Amar Dedic a major doubt after a hamstring injury. The £30m full-back was forced off during Newcastle's midweek Carabao Cup win at Millwall, adding to manager Matthias Jaissle's selection problems ahead of the Elland Road fixture.

Jaissle addressed the situation on Friday, offering a mixed update on his squad's fitness. He described Dedic's issue as not being 'too serious' but confirmed the defender is unlikely to be ready for the trip to West Yorkshire. The 24-year-old's potential absence is a blow for a Newcastle side sitting ninth in the table, one place and one point above tenth-placed Leeds.

Absentees pile up for visitors

Joelinton, the combative Brazilian midfielder, remains out with a thigh problem sustained over the summer and has not featured this season. Defender Dan Burn, 34, is also sidelined with ligament damage from an ankle roll at the end of August and is not expected back until after the upcoming international break.

Striker William Osula is out with a foot injury and was recently seen in a protective boot, with his earliest possible return next weekend. Young goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen missed the Millwall match with an ankle issue but would not have started ahead of Lukáš Horníček regardless.

Fernandez-Pardo closing in on debut

There was more positive news regarding Matias Fernandez-Pardo, the club's £51m deadline-day arrival. Jaissle stated the striker is 'getting closer' to a full debut, though a late decision will be taken on his involvement against Leeds. His potential introduction would offer a significant attacking boost for the Magpies.

Leeds, meanwhile, are preparing after a mixed week. Daniel Farke's side followed a 1-1 league draw at Brighton with a 6-3 Carabao Cup defeat at Chelsea on Wednesday, a game in which eight changes were made. Michael Zetterer and Melvin Bard made their debuts, while Noah Okafor and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who scored Leeds' third goal at Stamford Bridge, came off the bench.

The Whites' current league standing shows 5 points from three games, with a goal difference of plus one. They will be looking to improve a recent form line that reads LDDWW when they host Newcastle. The Premier League clash at Elland Road kicks off on Monday, 14 September.
